SUPPORT ART – SUPPORT ARTISTS
Artists Lijuan McQuillan, Eilis Slattery and Karen Wright have come together with TRIAD, a group exhibition at The Ireland Institute in September.
Lijuan McQuillan’s paintings are an amalgamation of cultural cliches, elements from popular culture, literary references and historical imagery from Eastern and Western societies. She brings together her experience of growing up and living in China and her present experience living in Ireland, integrating her sense of cultural heritage and her perspective as an outsider in another country.
Eilis Slattery creates Intaglio Etchings based on photographs she has taken, referencing nature and the structure of plants and organic material. These works obliquely reference Digital Photography by using hand drawn pixilation in parts of the images.
Karin Wright’s work explores the effects of the natural elements of the landscape, principally water and rock and the mark of their interaction on the environmental landscape. She achieves this through the medium of Abstract Expressionist oil paintings with a fluid and expansive style.
Lijuan, Karen and Eilis met at Art College in TU Dublin from where they have just graduated with a BA in Fine Art. Despite coming to a friendship with diverse academic and personal histories, they also brought a shared desire to express themselves creatively through multidisciplinary media.
The Ireland Institute is an historical and cultural centre located in what was the family home of Patrick and Willie Pearse.
Covid-19 guidelines and social distancing measures will apply, with limited numbers admitted at any one time.
