German artist, Karin Hawkes comes to Dublin for her first Irish solo exhibition at The Ireland Institute in September.
An expressionist painter, Karin’s work is characterised by extreme dynamics where bewildering contours mix and interlock. Strong colours and contrasts, movement and rhythm, spontaneity and chance cause a continuous variation between representational stylising and abstract forms.
Hawkes grew up in West Berlin amidst the worldwide mood of optimism of the 1960’s with the exciting Pop Cultural impulses of that time. She studied Graphics and Photography, Art History and Languages in Germany and London. Co-founder of the renowned Antique Arts Gallery, Neiriz Berlin (1980-2014), Karin lives and works in Berlin.
The Ireland Institute is an Historical and Cultural Centre located in what was the family home of Patrick and Willie Pearse.
This exhibition will be managed in line with Covid-19 guidelines in collaboration with Commercial Hygiene Solutions. Signage and hand sanitising stations will be in place and social distancing measures will apply, with limited numbers admitted at any one time.
