Artist John Paul will showcase a collection of his recent paintings in his debut solo exhibition at The Ireland Institute in February.

‘Characters of Dublin’ focuses on images of Dublin people from the past and the present. John Paul paints the statues of Dublin Plein Eir, taking his easel onto the streets of Dublin, while also indulging in his love of portrait painting at his studio, portraying his fellow artists and friends.

Dublin born,John Paul has always loved art, being very much encouraged by his family. He has been painting full time since 2006 and travelled to Italy under John Angel and Charles M. Cecil. This sojourn had a large impact on his practice, tending towards the Italian Classicists. Since his return to Ireland he has studied with artists William A. Nathans.
